Loot Crate - August 2014 - Heroes

Final unboxing video for the month and we saved the best till last, Loot Crate's Heroes themed box :)

As Tachiko mentioned, we opened my crate as his was sat at home a very long train ride away, I'll try and persuade him to send me pictures of what he got so we can post them up here :)

I will also try and remember to take photos before I rip things out of the packaging to give a better/ clearer picture of what's in the box...sorry guys!!

Next month's theme has yet to be released.....

Next post will be some amazing boot sale game pickups I promise!!!

Nerd Block : August 2014

Hi guys!

Back again with another unboxing video, this time we're unboxing a NerdBlock classic. Video quality is better as Tachiko was playing camera man! Not sure if NerdBlock has a set 'theme'. It all seems a little random in terms of content. Anyway, ENOY!!

Again really liked this box and have decided to buy it for another month or two to see what it's all about.

My Geek Box ~ August 2014 Quest

Hey guys!

Enjoy my first ever unboxing video for my second 'my geek box'. This months theme? QUEST!

I really liked this month's box but I was surprised not to find anything Legend Of Zelda based in there.... aw well :)

Next month's theme is Apocalypse!

RIP Robin Williams

Today I learnt that one of my favourite actors has passed away.

The very first film I ever saw in the cinema was Flubber and one of my favourite movies to watch at Christmas is Hook. I will never be able to watch these films or any of his others without feeling some sadness that he has gone.

Below is an advert he did with his daughter Zelda to promote the release of Ocarina of Time on 3DS.

Gone but never forgotten xx

Cowley Road bargain buy

Tachiko & I went to Cowley road last week to check out a second hand game shop we knew about. We'd been there once before but as they are kind of overpriced and kind of give the impression they don't know what they are talking about we've never bought from them. This time was no exception.

Walking a little further down the road (heading back towards Oxford city centre) we noticed a gadget/phone shop advertising consoles and games on the window.

So we decided to check it out, totally glad we did as they were selling a handful of NES games (unboxed) at £4.99 each, they had a couple of the Mario Bros games which would have been nice to pick up but the one I chose to get (thanks Tachiko for paying! xx) was Metroid.

It's a game I've never had the chance to play on the NES and after looking at the prices of the loose carts on eBay we totally got a bargain! Haven't had the chance to test it yet as the only NES in the house right now is my brother's and it's in a hard to get into cupboard but I'm hoping it get playing it soon!

Recent eBay buys :)

I've been shopping!! No real surprise there but I found a couple of very nice gems that are gonna look great when we get our own place and get our games room up and running :)

The gem I'm talking about is this ex display gameboy game display rack:

It holds 13 boxed games and even better, there are two of them :)
there is a little bit of damage to the wording on one of them as you can probably see in the second picture, I don't know whether to leave it as it is or touch it up with paint...

I also picked up a larger size in the adventure time t-shirt I got from my geek box last month as well as two other t-shirts that came from previous geek boxes :)

these are all taken from the ebay listings as they are all currently in the wash :)

Also picked up a boxed copy of Crash Dummies for the SNES, I remember playing my brother's copy for the gameboy so it'll be nice to see how it plays on the SNES.
I'm hoping that the sticker on the box can be carefully steamed off....

Oh and I also bought the first 3 seasons of Adventure Time on Blu-Ray as Netflix only has season 1 available to watch :)
(have literally just found out that season 4 is out either now or soon!!)

Um I think that was everything I've bought from eBay lately!

Kid Icarus Cards 2: the unnecessary sequal

So the second lot of Kid Icarus cards finally showed up late last week...80 packs of cards labelled promo 1 (yes that detail is important and I'll go into it soon!)

this is most of them...
we'd already started opening them before we realised we hadn't taken a photo!

Tachiko and I set about opening them up and organizing the cards into manageable piles to sort and put away. After my 'freak' encounter last time where I got the same card in every pack I decided to do some investigating and discovered that the packs labelled as 'Promo 1' all contain a 'three sacred treasures' card. So you guessed it we now have another 80 'three sacred treasures' cards to get rid of...

After sorting, we set about filing the cards we needed into our binders. Out of the 480 cards we bought I needed 0 of them, no that's not a typo, I genuinely needed none of them, Tachiko thankfully needed some of them so it wasn't a total waste of time but as they were all 'Promo 1' packs there's actually only a limited number of cards that could be found in those packs before you'd need to buy the booster packs originally sold in WHSmiths, Toys 'R' Us etc.

I don't think we'll be buying anymore lots of cards unless they are the store bought booster packs :)

Creepy Kid Icarus Cards

Last week Tachiko and I purchased a bulk lot of sealed Kid Icarus booster packs from eBay, 50 packs to be exact.

Both of us have a copy of the game and we each have a binder of cards that needs completing so this seemed like a really good way of getting one step closer to that goal.

The cards showed up yesterday and I set about opening them all, yes I probably should have waited for Tachiko to come over next Wednesday but I was excited and I have zero will power when it comes to waiting for things. Anyway after opening the first couple of packs I noticed that all the packs I had opened so far had contained a 'Three Sacred Treasures' card, a little weird but not totally unheard of when you buy this many packs in bulk.

I continued to open packs, 15 packs in and each pack had the same 'three sacred treasures' card, now I was beginning to get a little weirded out, I stopped going through each pack against my binder and just started ripping into the packs, surely somewhere the run of sacred treasures would run out?

20 packs, 25, 30 all containing that card, by now I was getting to the point of hysteria. How was it possible that when all the packs are filled and sealed at random could I wind up with so many of the same card? I continued to open the packs, wondering if it was possible that we'd bought resealed packs somehow but they didn't appear to be resealed in anyway.

50 packs opened and yes you probably guessed it, every single pack contained a 'three sacred treasures' card. So now we have 50 spare copies of this card to get rid off.

I sorted through the rest of the cards and out of 250 cards (i'm not including the 50 sacred treasures cards) I needed 113. I sorted through the remaining cards and there were 18 duplicates, now the remaining cards are left for Tachiko to go through and file what he needs before we list the rest up on eBay :)

He better do it quick, the 80 packs we ordered from another seller should be here soon! Lets hope we don't wind up with another 80 'Sacred Treasures' cards!!

Why I bought a Megadrive (or how I got a Mega CD)

So back on the 20th I posted the pictures of my brother's collection on Facebook (easiest way of getting them off my phone and onto my laptop as I have no idea where my transfer cable is) when I received the following message from my friend Rhyd.

    Hi Fiona!

Sorry for the slightly random email out of the blue, but I was just scrolling through Facebook and your collection of retro games consoles came up (awesome work by the way:-)). The thing being, I have an original Sega Mega CD here (see photo), a relic of my childhood that's been sat here for some time and which I've not really known what to do with. I had thought to put it on eBay but I've got no way of establishing whether or not it actually works as I don't have a Mega Drive anymore. I also don't have a power supply for it, though I imagine it's possible to get something that will work with it off of Amazon or something.

Anyway - I wondered if you wanted it!? It would look pretty ace as part of your collection, and if you're happy to cover the postage cost you can have it for free. I'd just be happy to see it going to a good home, and it helps me out with de-cluttering, as we're moving house in the forseeable future and it would be nice to not have to pack it! I'm sorry I can't make any guarantees right now about its working-ness but I'm hopeful you can figure that out - obviously if it's no good you're welcome to chuck it I have a very vague memory of white specks appearing on the screen sometimes when you turned it on from cold, but which disappeared after 10 minutes or so.

There's a few games for it too which I can send as well - Sonic CD; Silpheed; Night Trap; Lethal Enforcers 2: Gunfighters; Cobra Command; and a 'Classics' compilation CD including the Mega Drive titles Golden Axe, Super Monaco GP, Streets of Rage, Columns, and Revenge of Shinobi. I've also got a box for Final Fight, but no disc - it might actually be in the Mega CD but like I say I can't power it up!
Anyway as I say sorry that's all a bit random, but if it's of any interest let me know. If not, no worries at all! I hope everything is going well with you.
    All the best,
    Rhyd
Now how was I supposed to say No to that kind of offer?! Obviously I jumped at the chance of owning a Mega-CD and games for the cost of postage. (£7.19 btw) I figured I'd use my brother's megadrives to test it as the power cables are interchangeable and then buy my own at a later date.

So the Mega-Cd arrived on Wednesday and I dug out my brother's megadrive 1 & 2 to test it out when I found out that the power-cable for the Megadrive 2 has a different connecter and isn't backwards compatible! Luckily I had already caved and bought my own Megadrive 1 from eBay, all I had to do was wait for it to arrive....

Which it did a couple of days ago but due to work etc I've only just had time to plug it all in and test it out, obvious game for me to test it on was Sonic CD, I love me some Sonic!!

Safe to say I think it still works!!

In keeping with my Sonic Obsession I bought this job-lot of Sonic games from eBay including Sonic & Knuckles (which someone on YouTube affectionately referred to at the original DLC!) Sonic 2 even included the original promo poster.

Definitely gonna be framing this bad boy alongside my Sonic print :)

Lootcrate-July 2014

"you're a little small for a LootCrate" is what I thought to myself when I found this black box waiting for me when I got home from work. I was very quickly on the phone to GmrGrl to perform an impromptu unboxing. (It's not my fault my box came early!-GmrGrl)

I feel that I picked the right month to start my subscription as the theme was Villains, and in true form the Joker took it upon himself to personalise my box (at least I like to think that). But as nice as the box is, its the contents that matters and I was not disappointed. I was first greeted with an awesome Loki X Joker tee (which fits!).

I was then treated to some Deadpool socks, which as the theme was Villains, seems like an odd choice. But who cares, they are sweet.

Next up was a DVD of the Villains of DC comics but as its American I'll have to wait to play it on GmrGrl's region free player. Also included was a nice rubber Darth Vader keychain and a Bowser fridge magnet.

The last  item (not including the booklet and badge that's included in every LootCrate) was the double Joker (I swear he put this crate together himself) and Harley Quinn poster. Both of which will be framed soon.

But the best item for me was the exclusive LootCrate cover of Rocket Raccoon issue one! Just look at this beauty. He's even holding his very own LootCrate, so cute!

So that was my first in a three month subscription. Over all I'm impressed with the quality of the products they included and looking forward to next months theme of heroes
